Organic Box 1st September 2010

fruit: Discovery apples, bananas, red grapes, Victoria plums, yellow plums
veg: Ramiro peppers, watercress, carrots, summer squash, onions, Coleen potatoes, Tuscan kale, cherry tomatoes
It’s lovely to have Discovery apples in the bag as their tart flavour and crunch hail the return of apple season. As the weather turns ever cooler and the sky begins to darken early, the menu in this house moves towards soups, pies and curries again.
We made the summer squash curry, recommended on the bag flyer, and it was delicious and happily eaten by all. We made a watercress and apple soup and yet another minestrone with the kale (if you liquidise the minestrone it makes a good quick pasta sauce too). I’m hoping to get a few more recipes on the blog as of next week now that summer is over and the kids are back at nursery.
