fruit: nectarines, Worcester apples, bananas, Conference pears, plums
veg: onions, carrots, Ambo Potatoes, mushrooms, Hackney salad, spinach, sweetcorn, fennel, green pepper
I am so busy at the moment that I’m actually posting this a couple of weeks late. I used the fennel in some Fajitas and the green pepper, onions, carrots and potatoes were turned into a harvest vegetable soup (a winter staple for us).
We made a lovely chowder with the sweetcorn and had the mushrooms on toast for Sunday brunch.

This is another one from my World Food Cafe 2 book. Still quite a favourite! Serve this with grilled fish or cherry tomato and aubergine kebabs.
2 tbsp butter
zest of 2 lemons
1 tbsp chopped fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried)
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1 lb basmati rice, washed til water is clear
juice of 1 lemon
1 tsp salt
Melt the butter and add lemon, thyme and pepper, and fry for a minute. Add rice and stir well.
Add salt, lemon juice and enough cold water to cover the rice by 1cm.
Cover and bring to boil. Simmer until the water is absorbed. Fluff up the rice and season to taste.

fruit: nectarines, plums, discovery apples, bananas, melon
veg: plum tomatoes, purple cauliflower, Hackney salad, sweetcorn, beetroot, carrots, onions, Nicola potatoes
London is getting chillier, though it’s still lovely in the sun. We made some fruit kebabs with the melon and nectarines, and dipped them in some greek yoghurt drizzled with honey. The apples were delicious sliced thinly and added to cheese sandwiches, and the plums were delectable all by themselves!
I made a purple cauliflower cheese pasta, which was gobbled up by everyone, and we had the sweetcorn with some frozen chilli lime butter. Finally, I made a beautiful sunset salad of grated beetroot, carrots and apple with a mustard vinaigrette, which went well with some baked potatoes and grated cheddar.

fruit: nectarines, plums, red grapes, pears, bananas
veg: mushrooms, black kale, green peppers, Hackney salad, cherry tomatoes, carrots, courgettes, onions, Amarosa potatoes
It’s the summer holidays at the moment so all food is quickly produced and consumed, so not a lot of time for looking for new recipes or trying things, and even less time to write it up, I’m afraid!
Classics we made were mushroom barley bake, some minestone, a salad paysanne with steamed potatoes and a courgette risotto.
