Organic Box 6th January 2010

fruit: Conference pears, blood oranges, pomegranite, Gala apples, bananas
veg: leeks, Amorosa Potatoes, beetroot, red onions, carrots, sweet potatoes, broccoli, January King cabbage

My first thoughts tonight were wow… what a cabbage!  If you haven’t seen one of these in a while, they are pretty handsome beasts.  With the current weather I think it’s definitely a week for Borscht, and the one I make includes red onions, beetroot, carrots, cabbage and potatoes, so pretty much sorted for ingredients too.

I am planning to try a sweet potato and cabbage bubble and squeak this week (the recipe was in with the bags a few weeks back) and the broccoli and leeks will become a pasta bake for the babies as they can be a bit fussy when it comes to funny coloured soups!

We’ve already bought a brioche as it’s that time of year when light winter puddings are a must and I particularly love the Nigel Slater calvados apples on brioche recipe.  It takes 5 mins to make, looks very impressive, and is absolutely delicious.
