fruit: bananas, Coxes apples, Star Ruby grapefruit, Packham pears, Keitt mango
veg: Ambo potatoes, spinach, onions, carrots, salad bag, Romero peppers, sweet potato
I’m very pleased with the first appearance of pink grapefruits as they are a staple of my winter breakfasts, the cheery colour and zingy taste beat a murky brown coffee any day! The appearance of both sweet potatoes and spinach in this weeks bag call for sweet potato gnocchi to be made. They freeze well so its worth making a big batch, then wheeling them out for a quick supper alternative to pasta. They are also surprisingly like making playdough, so time to get those kids in the kitchen to help you out.
I was looking forward to the turnips as I have a couple of lovely turnip recipes that are delicious…. for some reason we didn’t get one in the bag after all, so I’ll have to wait!
With the rest we’ll probably have another harvest vegetable soup , a grated carrot and apple salad (lovely with baked spuds) and hopefully I’ll manage to snaffle a couple of the peppers to make a tomato and pepper sauce for my version of Eggs Zakynthos for Sunday brunch.
